… And we’re back!

It has been a long time since I’ve written here. First, Twitter spoiled me for blogging. Then, I was literally in between host providers — domain registration at one, hosting at the other, nameservers pointing elsewhere… I hadn’t the wherewithal to get in the weeds. And even WordPress seems as though it’s advanced beyond its prior capabilities since I last used it (and obviously now competes with Substack and Medium).

But two major professional milestones have occurred since my last version of the site:

  1. I made tenure. As of September 2022, Spencer M. Ross, Ph.D. is now Associate Professor of Marketing at the Manning School of Business, University of Massachusetts Lowell.
  2. Following promotion and tenure, I applied for and was awarded a sabbatical in Spring 2024 semester. As part of my sabbatical plan, I applied for and was awarded a grant as Fulbright Scholar to Colombia (🇨🇴).

In light of these two things, and in anticipation of my journey to/travels around Colombia to research coffee markets/ing, I felt it would be prudent to resurface this site and start writing again. I’ve not mapped out how this site will be laid out (obviously right now the blog is on the homepage) or what I want this site to be about (other than re-establishing a corner of the web that is not social media platform dependent). But I figured it’s time to start somewhere.

My immediate interest in doing this is to document my journey in academia here– at both micro- and macro scale– for me and to anyone else interested. And that will likely start… with coffee.

More to come…
